Hello all,
Whew! It's been a little while, hasn't it? It's definitely been much longer than I was anticipating when I wrote my last post back in March. Regardless, with the start of a new school year, it's time for club activities to begin yet again! Here are some updates and explanations for how club activities will play out in the coming months. NO CLUB LUNCH MEETINGS WILL BE HELD UNTIL IN-SCHOOL CLASSES RESUME: This one probably needs little explanation, but while we are all learning remotely for the first quarter of the school year, we won't be able to have any lunch meetings. Once we do end up returning to in-person schooling, I plan to still have lunch meetings, but I'm admittedly still unsure of how it's all going to work out just yet. With the whole cohort system being implemented at WLHS, some extra complications will have to be addressed before we can resume lunch meetings. Please hang tight in the meantime! I'll hopefully be able to post more details in the coming months. THREE NEW CLUB GROUP RIDES HAVE BEEN POSTED: In the "Group Rides" tab, you will notice three new rides: one ride is a short road ride, the next is a trail ride farther out east, and the last ride is a longer road ride created by Jake Johansen. Please see the "Group Rides" tab to learn more about each of the three rides! THE WLHS CYCLING CLUB WEBSITE GETS A MAKEOVER: As you have probably noticed, I've been tinkering around with this website. The functionality is mostly the same, but now things may look a little different. If you have any questions about how the website, or how it works, please reach out to myself or Jake Johansen! Thanks for sticking around until the end of this lengthy post. I hope to see you all very soon at one of the club rides. Until then, ride on! -Hayden Wierman

Hello all,
I hope that this message reaches you all in good health and spirits. I am sad to announce that in the midst of the COVID-19 virus emergency, ALL WLHS Cycling Club meetings, activities, and rides will be cancelled until classes at WLHS resume. If you have any further questions, please reach out to one of the WLHS Cycling Club administrators. I hope to see you all soon! Please stay healthy and safe in the meantime. Ride on! -Hayden Wierman Hello all,
I'm afraid that I have come down with sickness this past week, and I will not be well enough to lead tomorrow's group ride. Unfortunately, this means that the ride will have to be postponed to a later date. Tomorrow's forecast was looking quite rainy, so hopefully I can find a new date where the rain won't be so prevalent! Please be on the lookout for the new date for this ride when I can find one. Until then, ride on! -Hayden Wierman Hello all,
I hope that all of your finals exams went well, and that you're all enjoying our three day weekend! With this extra time allotted to me, I have finally had time to focus on the cycling club once more. Here are a few new updates regarding the club. INTRODUCING NEW CLUB VICE PRESIDENT JAKE JOHANSEN: That's right! For those who may have noticed his name in the list of club administrators in the "Contact" page of this website, Jake Johansen has joined our small group of club administrators. He will be helping out with club responsibilities such as creating routes, helping out with the website, and whatever else comes up! Jake has been with the club from the beginning and has been a great help, so I'm confident he'll do a great job as the vice president of this club! CLUB LUNCH MEETING THIS THURSDAY (1/30/2020): As a result of our looming final exams and a serious shortage of open Thursdays, the cycling club took most of January off from having lunch meetings. However, I have planned a lunch meeting for this upcoming Thursday. The meeting will be about the same as all of the others, but I would mostly like to discuss what's down below... THREE NEW CLUB GROUP RIDES HAVE BEEN POSTED: Three new group rides have been posted in the "Group Rides" page of this website! Two of the rides are strictly road routes, and one is a mixed road and off-road route created by Jake Johansen. I hope you will check out the "Group Rides" page and sign up for one or more of the rides if you think you can make it to any of the three! Phew! That was a lot of info, but thanks a lot for reading all the way to the end! I'll try to keep these posts shorter. Anyways, have a nice rest of your three day weekend and ride on! -Hayden Wierman *You may have seen this post in the "News" page of this website. This blog post is a repeat of the same information for those who did not see the article on the "News" page.*
Greetings all! I'm writing this short article to inform members of the club that the upcoming club lunch meeting on December 12th (this Thursday) will unfortunately need to be cancelled. Or at least, I will not be present at the meeting. I am going to be competing at the 2019 USA Cyclocross National Championships, and I will be heading to the venue early on Thursday morning. Although this means that the meeting will not be held this Thursday, if members of the club wish to get together and hang out together in the meeting room (E203), that would be totally okay! There will be another lunch meeting next week on December 18th (NEXT WEDNESDAY), in which I will present some plans for available club group rides during winter break. Until then, have a nice rest of your week. Ride on! -Hayden Wierman Hello all!
Just a couple of updates today! First off... As a result of scheduling issues, the next group ride scheduled for November 23rd has been pushed back a week to November 30th. I hope that this new date can still work for some, despite how close it is to Thanksgiving. Secondly... You may have noticed that I am including sign-up forms for each of the upcoming group rides on the website. From now on, I would greatly appreciate it if everybody would fill out the quick sign-up form for each group ride that they intend to participate in. Doing so will allow me to plan ahead a little bit better prior to each group ride. Thank you very much for reading this! Have a nice week, -Hayden Wierman Greetings all,
I have just posted the information for our next club group ride on November 23rd! I'm wondering about what time you would all like this ride to start. I had thought that 10:00am would be a good time to start the ride, but if you all are busy at that time, or if you wish to wait the warmer afternoon weather, please feel free to suggest times for when the ride should start! Thank you for reading this! Have a nice rest of your week, -Hayden Wierman Hello all,
Just a quick update about our upcoming group ride on this Saturday (November 2nd). Today, I went out and tested out the route which I had planned for our group ride, but I realized as I was riding that the route was hilly... Really hilly. I was at one point climbing at a grade of 20%! Yikes! Anyways, I have changed the route to be a little bit shorter, and definitely less hilly! The starting location, starting time, and ending location are all the same. The only part which has changed is the route itself. If you wish to see the updated route, it is on the group ride description page of this website. The old route has simply been replaced by the new one, and so has the route download link. I hope to see some of you on Saturday! Take care, -Hayden Wierman Hey everybody,
I hope you have all read the new article which I posted in the "News" page of this website. The article talked about the plan for the club photo shoot—which is this Friday. If you haven't read the article, I will briefly explain the plan... We will be meeting up in one of the two gyms (whichever one has the photo equipment inside of it) at 11:40am for our photo shoot. The shoot shouldn't take long, so everybody can head back to lunch once we are done! If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions about this plan—leave a comment on this post! Until then, all the best! -Hayden Wierman Hello all,
I was thinking that this blog page could be a good method of opening up this website to more than just myself, and the other club administrators. From what I can gather, anybody can comment on any posts that I make. Please let me know if you can not make comments, in which case I may need to tinker around with the website settings. Feel free to have as much discussion as you want about any cycling topic you want! Anyways, I don't have much else to say, right now. This has been a good way for me to try out the functionality of the blog. Until next time! -Hayden Wierman |
